MORANA TOURS AND EXPEDITION

WHY THE TOURISM INDUSTRY IS NOT BEING DEVELOPED

Tourism is now one of the biggest Industries of the World. Due to quick development it had topped the list of foreign Trade of many countries. Even it had become the main source of income. USA being one of the richest countries of the World derives 11% of her revenue income from the Tourism. One statistics shows that 50 crores of tourists went out for tour in the whole world in 1993. It was 55 crores in 1996. The Tourism Corporation of the world expresses its view that it may reach up to 66 crors in the year 2000. Mr. Geopray Lipmen, Specialist and Director of the Asia Pacific Region. States “We notice that the rate of increase in the tourism is 4%-5% and it is 8 to 10 percent in Asia. By year 2000 the income shall stand at 805 Million Dollars in Asia and by the end of 2005 year it may stand at 2 Trillion Dollars. In Asia, Singapore and Hongkong have beenoHoH
Advanced much in tourism. Plenty of tourists visit these two countries every year. When we look at Nepal, Srilanka and Maldives. We find they have cited glaring examples of success in Tourism Industry. A few Tourists use to come to this country. Those who come, they are from Europe. In 1998 tour end the income derived from them stood at TK. 245.48 crores only. This figure is negligible in comparison to other countries of Asia. In one statistics it has been noticed that only 4.5 percent Tourists visits Bangladesh of the total tourists that visits Asia every year.

The number of tourists visiting France is going to exceed almost of crores per year. Approximately 4,77,247 Tourist appeared to have visited Spain, 34829000 Tourist in Italy, 1.13 in Portugal In this way Turkey, Tunisia, Croatia, Morocco and Egypt gained 9.00 to 3.00 Lac of Tourists. In order to develop Tourism industry in Bangladesh, the govt. ventured to establish an institution named and styled “Bangladesh Parjaton Corporation” in 1973. But on remarkable achievement cerulean have done till not since the date of its establishment. Nothing could have been done save and except a few Hotels. Parjaton was declared as an Industry by the Govt. in February 1991 by setting National Rules and Regulation. Since then the period from 16th October to 15 November is being observed as the tourism month. In spite of having a brisk change of development of Tourism, Bangladesh still reruns limited in paper and booklets. It is very much hopeful that the present Govt. has attached much importance upon this industry. In order to develop the Tourism Industry in Bangladesh, the govt. has taken effort through non-governmental organization by setting up three members committee in which the head of the Armed Forces has been co-opted as one of the members. It is hoped that this committee will submit its report soon and the govt. will take appropriate step. The ample opportunity for drawing attention of the foreign tourists is the longest Seabeach of the World in Cox’s Bazar, which is 120 K.M. in length. Besides, there is a picturesque Sea-beach in the Dist. Patuakhali, known as “Kuakata”. The speciality of this beach is that sitting here can enjoy the sunrise and sunset. Moreover the Sunday ban Forest covering 6000 square KM situated in the dist. of khulna in south east region of the country is 320 K.M from the Metropolitan city, Dhaka. UNESCO has rightly declared it as a part and parcel of the glorious regions of the world, and it has taken responsibility of drawing attention of the nature lovers of the world. The other places bestowed with since beauty nature are saint martin Island, Moheskhali, Jaflong, Karnafuly and its shampan, Paharpur, Madhabkundu, Madhupur Ghar, Sand Masjid, Kantajir Temple of dinajpur, run sager dighi (lake) and so on. Over and above the foreign tourists can have much sheriment while seeing and talking to the tribal people of Garo pahar of Mymensing Madhupur of Tangall and Kuakata of Patuakhali, if proper standard arrangement can be made for accommodations and security of the Tourists? It is not ontgplace to cite that the river Jamuna beasing the testimony the amorous feelings and activities of Radha Krishna, accross which the 11th biggest Bridge has been constincted and it must provide much amenities to the Tourist if proper arrangement is made for them Agai.......... if Parjatan Center is constructed at Silaidah, Containing the back –drops of the famous Poet Rabindranath and in other places like Sahjadpur of sirajgonj and Patisar of Naogaon etc. must provide amusement to foreign devotee of Natote. Self-Drive Tour S1 - Best of Namibia

DETAILED ITINERARY:

Day 01 / Arrival Windhoek
Arrival at Windhoek International Airport where you will be met either by a representative of the car rental agency or one of our staff members. These representatives will gladly assist in driving you to Windhoek, which lies 40-km west of the Airport. After reaching your destination you will be able to collect the vehicle of your choice. Do not despair just yet, before we leave you, you will be briefed in detail about the trip! This includes providing you with travel advice on the safest and shortest routes to each destination as well as with instructions on how to safely operate the chosen vehicle.

Now your African Experience starts! There is ample time to do sightseeing through
Windhoek, the Capital of Namibia, at your own leisure. The City boasts numerous historical buildings, in German architectural style, dating from the turn of the previous century. A visit to these old buildings, which lend a mystical charm to the City, is definitely worthwhile. Some of the places that should be included in your "to-see-list" are firstly, the Tintenpalast, also known as the Palace of Ink, which has been the historic seat of government since colonial times. Also, the City's most striking landmark, the Christuskirche, with its graceful spire and the white-walled Alte Feste, once a fort for German troops and now a museum, reflecting the
history of Namibia.

The different residential areas also reflect the diversity of the Country. In Windhoek for example, it is possible to find areas such as the location, known as Katatura, where up to nine different ethnic groups, each speaking their own language, live side by side in harmony. In contrast to this there are also other specific ethnic residential areas, which are only inhabited by people of one ethnic group, who speak their distinctive language and
practise their unique traditions.

Windhoek lies 1 650 meters above sea level and is cradled between the Auas Mountains in the south, the Eros Mountains in the north-east and the Khomas Hochland Mountains in the west. The Capital has a population of 300 000 people, which makes it the largest city in the country. It also serves
as the political, cultural and economical centre of Namibia.

After completing the sightseeing tour, Okapuka Ranch is next in line on the itinerary. The Ranch is situated approximately 50-km north of Windhoek. Here, guests have the wonderful opportunity of witnessing the lions being fed during the late afternoon. You will spend your first night in Africa at
Okapuka Ranch!

Okapuka Ranch****
At this comfortable Lodge, which lies north of Windhoek at the foot of the Onyanti Mountains, one can relax and enjoy delicious African dishes and luxurious accommodation, whilst being surrounded by the lush, natural African bush. Okapuka offers various kinds of accommodation, all equipped with en suite bathrooms. It also boasts a floodlit tennis court, a swimming pool, walking trails, 4x4 trails and luxury tents. During your stay at Okapuka Ranch you can either spend your time watching the beautiful African sunsets, participating in a game drive or just relaxing in the African bush whilst watching the lions being fed. The choice is yours!

Day 02 / Okahandja – Waterberg
After enjoying a hearty breakfast at Okapuka Ranch, it is time to start travelling further north. In Okahandja we would strongly recommend a visit to the local woodcarvers market as well as a visit to the ostrich farm.

Okahandja:
Approximately 80-km directly north of
Windhoek lies Okahandja, a town of great significance to the Herero population. In 1849 the German missionary, Friedrich Kolbe, came to Okahandja to spread the belief of Christianity amongst the natives. After three months he was forced to abandon his mission due to the outbreak of tribal wars. Chief Samuel Maharero, a very important Herero leader, settled in Okahandja from where he strategised and conducted his war plans. Every year in August thousands of Hereros gather in Okahandja for a pilgrimage to pay homage at the graves of their great chiefs. The town is also an important centre for woodcarvers from the north. They still practice their ancient skills at the Mbanguru Woodcarvers Market.

After spending some time in Okahandja, it is time to gather your purchases and to head on to the
Waterberg Plateau Park. Arrival is expected in the
early afternoon.

The
Waterberg Plateau Park:
This area forms a backdrop to some of the most beautiful scenery you will see during your tour of Namibia. The Plateau itself is an astonishing 50-km long and 16-km wide. Rising some 200 metres above a surrounding sea of African bush and savannah, the Waterberg Plateau, with its flamboyant brick-red sandstone formations and lush green vegetation, presents an island of vibrant colour. The 40 549 square hectare Park, situated 60-km east of Otjiwarongo, was proclaimed as a National Park in 1972. It was originally created as a sanctuary for rare and endangered species found in the Caprivi region, such as roan, sable antelope, tsessebe and Cape buffalo.

Today the Park is home to some 25 game species and over 200 bird species. When entering the Park, you will find that the vegetation changes dramatically from acacia savannahs at the foot of the Plateau, to lush, green subtropical woodlands with tall trees and grassy plains at the top.

The
Waterberg Plateau Park is also of historical importance. In 1904 the decisive battle between the German Emperor's Troops, also known as the Schutztruppe, and the rebel Herero forces took place here. The cemetery at the foot of the Plateau is evidence of the events of a bygone era.

In the afternoon you have time to hike to the top of the Plateau, where you will be spoiled with an unforgettable view, which stretches endlessly into the savannah grasslands below.

You will spend one night at the Bernabe-de-la-Bat Restcamp Waterberg.

Bernabe-de-la-Bat Restcamp Waterberg**
The Restcamp is situated at the foot of the Waterberg, in the unspoiled Namibian wilderness. All bungalows are equipped with a bath and/or shower, bedding, soap, towels, refrigerators, kettles and hotplates. Each bungalow has its own fireplace (barbecue area) outside. Other facilities at the Restcamp include a restaurant, shop, kiosk and a swimming pool.

The Plateau represents one of the most important sanctuaries for endangered animal species in
Namibia. It is also possible to partake in a game drive to the top of the Plateau, which takes place twice daily, either early in the morning or during the late afternoon. If you prefer to get to know the terrain better, your best option would be to explore the various walking trails.

Day 03 / Tsumeb -
Lake Otjikoto
After breakfast you will depart for the north of Namibia, travelling to Mokuti Lodge via Tsumeb and Lake Otjikoto. In Tsumeb guests can broaden their knowledge of this interesting town by visiting the local museum.

Tsumeb:
The town of
Tsumeb, gateway to the north, has been closely linked to the mining industry since 1905. Its history is depicted in the local museum, where a variety of rare minerals can be viewed. In the Khorab room a collection of restored weapons, cannons and other armaments, which were dumped into Lake Otjikoto by the German forces during the First World War
in 1915, and later retrieved, are displayed.

Lake Otjikoto:
The small, almost spherically shaped Lake Otjikoto, together with Lake Guinea, form the only natural lakes in Namibia. Both lakes originated as a result of subterraneous caves, which collapsed and afterwards filled with subsurface water. Shaped something like an upside-down mushroom, Lake Otjikoto in particular, was formed when the roof of a huge dolomite cave collapsed. At some places Lake Otjikoto is up to 90 meters deep, even though legend has it otherwise. Many legends surround the lake. A favourite myth is that Lake Otjikoto and Lake Guinea are bottomless. Stalactite samples taken from an underwater cave have been estimated to be about 80 000 years old. A rare, mouth-breeding species of fish is also found in the
lake's depths.

After a long day of travelling and experiencing new sights and sounds you
will spend the night at Mokuti Lodge.

Mokuti Lodge****
Situated at the eastern entrance to the renowned Etosha National Park, Mokuti Lodge is known not only for its modern accommodation facilities but also for its excellent service. As a result hereof the Lodge has already been awarded several prizes from various agencies within the hospitality industry. Nature lovers can experience the African bush on the multitudinous walking - and riding trails. Guided tours to the Etosha National Park, leading to numerous encounters with African wildlife, is sure to make your African Experience a perfect and lasting one. It is also recommended that you visit
to the Lodge's own reptile park.

Day 04 /
Etosha National Park
After enjoying breakfast, the entire day can be spent in the world-renowned Etosha National Park. There is adequate time for game drives and watching
wildlife, as they feed at the water holes.

Etosha National Park:
The Etosha National Park is located in the north of Namibia and can be counted as one of the most beautiful conservation areas in Africa. Governor Von Lindequist had already proclaimed the Park as a conservation area in 1907. At that stage the Park encompassed an area that was five times
bigger than it is today.

Today the Park, consisting of 22 270 square km of saline desert, savannahs and woodlands, is one of the largest in
Africa. Its most distinctive feature is the Etosha Pan, a widespread, shallow depression of approximately 5000 square km. For the greater part of the year, the pan is a bleak expanse of white cracked mud, which shimmers with mirages. Seeing vast herds of game against the backdrop of this eerie "great, white, dry place of water" makes the Etosha experience unique. A total of 114 mammal species are found in the Park. These include several rare and endangered animals, such as black rhino and black-faced impala. About 340 bird species favour the Park as habitat, if only for a part of the year. Approximately one third of the birds are migratory, including the European bee-eater and several species
of waders.

In the afternoon you can pay a visit to the museum at
Fort Namutoni. Travellers, merchants and traders alike have visited Namutoni since the beginning of the 19th century because of the ever-present water springs. Here they idled away the hours by hunting and taking baths in the springs. Today the German Fort, stemming from colonial times, does not only represent an interesting part of history, but it was also carefully and meticulously renovated to provide accommodation for travellers. A water hole ideally located right next to the Fort provides for optimal animal viewing. It is also possible to view the animals at night, as the water hole is lit after sunset.

You will spend the night at Mokuti Lodge.

Day 05 /
Etosha National Park - Namatubis Guestfarm
After a delicious breakfast, the entire day will be spent travelling through the Park. This is your last chance to view some of the most splendid African beasts, as they roam freely in the wild. In the late afternoon you will leave the Etosha National Park through its southern gate and drive to Namatubis Guestfarm near Outjo.

At Namatubis guests will tickle their tastebuds with scrumptious African cuisine and after a long day spent in the African bush the time comes to retire to your room.

Namatubis Guestfarm***
Namatubis is an excellent rest spot for travellers en route to or from Etosha because it is situated only 80-km south of the Anderson gate at the Park. With its beautiful lush gardens, Namatubis is a veritable oasis. The twenty-three spacious and comfortable units each have twin double beds and en suite facilities. Your hosts will serve you delicious meals and treat you with genuine Namibian hospitality. Guests will be able to enjoy the African sunsets either from the swimming pool, the veranda or the bar.

Day 06 / Damaraland
Only after breakfast the journey continues to Damaraland. On your way a visit to the 'Fingerklippe', the 'Petrified Forest' and 'Burnt Mountain' is recommended.

Damaraland and the Kaokoveld are situated in the dry north-western part of
Namibia. Both of these regions form an integral part of the diverse, ethnic mosaic that makes the country so interesting. Damaraland was a secluded region until very recently and as a consequence the daily lives of the natives haven't changed much over the past centuries. The region is one of contrasts: high mountains, grasslands and prairies.

If you are willing to take on the formidable task of being subjected to high temperatures and some careful manoeuvring on the gravel road, you will be richly rewarded with some of the most amazing panoramic views the north of
Namibia has to offer. En route you will be able to see Burnt Mountain, which is the highest pinnacle in Namibia, as well as numerous rock paintings, including the world renowned "White Lady ". In Twyfelfontein, which resembles a large, open-air gallery, you will be able to witness even more of these ancient, spectacular paintings of the Bushmen.

Petrified Forest:
Here an antediluvian flood deposited giant tree trunks, some up to 30 metres long. The age of these fossil trunks is estimated to be 200 million years. They subsequently turned to stone, millions of years ago. Today the Namib's well known Welwitschia Mirabilis, grow among these prostrate fossilised trunks.

Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain:
These two geological wonders should definitely be witnessed to make your African experience memorable. South of Twyfelfontein is Burnt Mountain, a panorama of desolation, which consists of coloured rocks contrasting vividly against the grey-black surroundings. The Mountain received this name, as it seems as though it is constantly burning. The blackened limestone at its foot, which sharply contrasts with the kaleidoscope of flamboyant colours reflected on the Mountain, causes this effect. With an elevation of 700 meters, Burnt Mountain is the highest in Namibia, with the highest peak comprising 2 573 metres. The volcanic mass of Burnt Mountain is 30-km long and encompasses a surface area of 759 square kilometres. If you want to see the striking "White Lady " you will have to embark on a 2 1/2-km long walking trail.

The Organ Pipes, a mass of basalt slabs in a ravine, gouged out by a river, forms another favourite tourist destination in the area.

Twyfelfontein:
Twyfelfontein, meaning doubtful fountain, lies to the west of Khorixas and resembles a large open-air art gallery. This treasure of rock engravings left by Stone Age artists is regarded as one of the most remarkable and unparalleled collections in Africa. One of the highlights, which you will be able to observe here, is the " Dancing Kudu", a painting of an antelope
surrounded by abundant geometrical patterns.

Fingerklippe:
This natural phenomenon, a 35-meter high limestone column, can only be found in
Namibia. This structure is situated on the Bertram Farm, which lies 75-km east of Khorixas. The column is encircled with various "Table Mountain-like configurations", which are remains of an earlier plateau,
eroded by the Ugab River.

You will be staying at Twyfelfontein Lodge for the night.

Twyfelfontein Country Lodge***
Twyfelfontein Lodge is situated in the Uibasen Twyfelfontein Conservancy, approximately 5-km from the renowned historical site, containing some of the most unique specimens of rock engravings and - paintings in southern Africa. The lodge boasts 57 en suite double rooms as well as a restaurant,
bar and sparkling swimming pool.

Day 07 / Cape Cross – Swakopmund
Morning departure to Swakopmund via Uis and Cape Cross.

Cape Cross:
The largest and best known of the 23 breeding colonies for Cape fur seals along the coast of South Africa and Namibia is definitely the Cape Cross Seal Reserve 115-km north of Swakopmund. During the November/December breeding season, as many as 300 000 seals gather at Cape Cross. This is also the chosen spot where they give birth to their calves. After the mating season the males undertake a journey in the southern Atlantic, only to return during the month of October. Throughout their journey these males would have covered an exceptional 3 200-km.

It was here that the first European, the Portuguese navigator Diego Cao, erected a stone cross in 1486 in the honour of King Johannes I of
Portugal. Cape Cross is not only of historical significance. Apart from the impressive number of seals there is also a small lichen reserve where a relatively large variety of these interesting and slow-growing organisms are protected.

Late afternoon arrival in Swakopmund and check-in at the Hansa Hotel
where you will spend the night.

Hansa Hotel****
The grand Hansa Hotel is a timeless classic that forms part of Swakopmund's architectural culture and dates back to 1905. Being centrally situated, the Hotel becomes a doorway to all the tourist amenities, which Swakopmund has to offer. Not only is the Hansa Hotel world renowned for its outstanding cuisine, but also comparable with the most prestigious
addresses encountered abroad.

Day 08 / Swakopmund
In the morning you can embark on a sightseeing walk through the streets of Swakopmund after enjoying a delectable breakfast at the Hotel.

The German colonial style architecture is reflected in buildings such as the "Hohenzollernhaus" and the
Woermann Tower. The pier and the lighthouse, together with the adjacent statue, all erected by German marines, are evidence of the past. It is worthwhile to have a look at Martin Luther, a small but solid steam engine, positioned on the left of the road, when approaching
the coastal town from the interior.

In the afternoon you can visit the Welwitschia trail, which is a popular feature of the Namib Naukluft Park and lies east of Swakopmund. The route is marked with stone beacons and offers a close look at the Welwitschia Mirabilis, a botanical attraction, endemic to the Namib Desert and certainly one of the most intriguing and bizarre plants on earth. A magnificent specimen, known as the Great Welwitschia and estimated to be about 1 500 years old, can be seen along the Welwitschia trail.

It is also recommended that you visit the museum and aquarium in Swakopmund. Be daring and venture into the desert on the back of a camel!

Skeleton Coast (not included):
A flight along the Skeleton Coast is also recommended but definitely not for the faint hearted! This is a once in a life time opportunity - to take part in a scenic flight that you will always treasure as a favourite memory. The Skeleton Coast is one of the most remote regions in the world. The splendour of this terrain is best viewed from the air at a height of 300 metres from which the ship wrecks and many dune formations below form a marvellous and wondrous picture.

The journey will start from Swakopmund in a six seater Cessna, which guarantees each participant a window seat! The flight will be conducted at a low level for the largest duration thereof, so that the terrain can be viewed optimally. You will be flying over glimmering salt pans and have a fantastic opportunity to view the seal colony at
Cape Cross from the air. The first explorers to this area feared the stormy sea, almost constantly covered in fog, and rightly so because the many wreckages are testimony of its cruelty. At the mouth of the Uniab River the journey along the Coast comes to an end and the flight continues inland where the search for desert elephants, giraffes and antelope goes ahead. After an aerial view of the majestic Brandberg, the highest in Namibia, the contrasts of Damaraland and the Spitzkoppe, the Cessna heads back to Swakopmund.

Prices: Per person N$ 1.260,-- when there are 5 participating passengers

The Hansa Hotel will again be your retreat for the night.

Day 09 / Walvis Bay & Namib Desert
Today, after breakfast, your journey continues to one of the most breath-taking deserts in the world, the Namib. Your end destination is Rostock Ritz,
reached via Walvis Bay and the Kuiseb Pass.

Walvis Bay:
Walvis Bay is the only harbour along the Namibian Coast that is deep enough for freight ships to enter. Although Namibia became independent in 1990, Walvis Bay remained a South African enclave until 1994. The town is embraced in the protection of a bay surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and
the golden sand dunes of the Namib.

The
Walvis Bay Lagoon is a tranquil stretch of water and its natural beauty is accentuated by thousands of flamingos, which gather at these rich feeding grounds. Altogether some 80 000 birds, including flamingos and rare white pelicans can be seen on the lagoon, which is regarded as the most
important wetland in Namibia.

Namib Desert:
The Namib, one of the oldest deserts in the world, was already arid some 80 million years ago. In the south it extends into South Africa across the Orange River and in the north it crosses the Kunene River into Angola. The greater part of the Namib lies inside Namibia, where it occupies some 1500-km of the Atlantic coastline. In width it generally varies between 80- and 140-km, but in places it reaches inland for as much as 200-km.

Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge is the end destination where you will be
spending the night.

Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge***
The Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge, your in-between stop in the desert, consists of traditionally shaped bungalows aesthetically integrated into the natural surroundings. The Lodge has twenty-two double rooms with en suite bathrooms. Another plus is that all facilities are wheelchair friendly. The Rostock Ritz offers you a first class a-la-carte restaurant and a well stocked bar. The dream pool, with a spectacular view, is at your disposal and there
are various different kinds of activities to keep you busy.

Day 10 / Sossusvlei & Sesriem Canyon
Early in the morning you will depart for Sossusvlei and the Sesriem Canyon.

The dune wonderland at Sossusvlei, with towering dunes up to 300 metres high, surrounds a huge, dry pan. Dunes extend as far as the eye can see and their rich tints vary from pale apricot to vivid reds and oranges. During a good rainy season the
Tsauchab River flows into the pan, which creates a haven for water birds. Even during the dry season, oryx, springbok and ostriches can be seen feeding off the sparse vegetation that grow along the
paths of the underground water sources.

Sesriem Canyon:
At the entrance to Sossusvlei is the
Sesriem Canyon, where centuries of erosion have chiselled a narrow gorge of about 1-km in length. At the bottom of the gorge, which plunges down for 30- to 40-m, are deep pools of water, which only become replenished after good rains. Sesriem derives its name from the time when early pioneers tied six lengths of rawhide strips together
to draw water from these pools.

Hammerstein Guestfarm will provide you with your accommodation for the night.

Hammerstein Guestfarm**
Approximately 75-km south-east from the entrance to Sossusvlei and situated halfway between Lüderitz and Swakopmund is Hammerstein Rest Camp, the ideal stop-over for travellers to the south of Namibia. Guests can either explore the huge, granite boulders with their Bushmen rock paintings or relax at the cosy bar, the 'braai' (barbecue) area or in the sparkling pool. There is a possibility to arrange mountain drives, as well as 4x4 day trips to Sossusvlei. The unique and unparalleled beauty of this area as well as the star filled night sky will etch unforgettable memories.

Day 11 /
Duwisib Castle
After breakfast departure to Sinclair Guestfarm via Duwisib Castle.

Duwisib Castle:
Situated south-west of Maltahöhe amongst rugged hills is Duwisib Castle, built by the legendary Baron Hans-Heinrich Von Wolff for his American bride, Jayta. The Baron employed a Swedish carpenter and an army of labourers, hired locally, to help complete Duwisib. The Castle was constructed by Italian stonemasons from quarried stone and completed in 1909. Ships from Germany brought not only the building materials but also the antique furniture that adorns the Castle. It is said that a certain Adrian Esterhuizen travelled through the desert for two years from the harbour town of Lüderitz with some twenty oxen wagons to deliver the freight to the Castle. Today, one is still able to see weapons, furniture and paintings in the Castle, dating from the previous century. It is also interesting to note that Duwisib Castle later on served as an example for the forts, which the German Schutztruppe built at Gideon, Namutoni and Windhoek.

Sinclair Guestfarm is your destination at the end of the day.

Sinclair Guestfarm**
This is the perfect resting-place to recharge your energy levels after a long day of travelling. Sinclair is situated in the dry southern part of Namibia on the border of the Namib Desert and has 5 rooms, each with a private shower and WC. The Farm is well known for its exquisite catering and also has a full liquor license. The fascinating scenery provides ample opportunity for outstanding photographs. Here you will also be able to take a closer look at the Karakul sheep, which are bred on the Farm.

Day 12 /
Fishriver Canyon
After breakfast your journey takes you to the Fishriver Canyon.

Fishriver Canyon:
The Fishriver Canyon is formed by the Fish River, the longest river in Namibia. As the second largest Canyon in the world it is counted as one of the most significant tourist sights in southern Africa. Set in a harsh, stony plain scantily covered with drought resistant succulents and the distinctive quivertree, also known as the 'kokerboom', the Canyon represents a spectacular natural phenomenon that took hundreds of millions of years to evolve. In these harsh conditions it is only possible for a few species of plant- and animal life to survive. While the full length of the canyon is 161-km, the most spectacular section is the 56-km long stretch, which lies between the northern most and southern most viewpoints. At certain places the Canyon is as wide as 27-km and reaches a depth of 550 metres. Animals such as baboons, rock dassies, ground squirrels and klipspringers are commonly sighted in the Canyon. Due to the severe conditions in this area, antelopes such as the mountain zebra, kudu and oryx are rarely spotted.

In the afternoon there is time for a stroll along the Canyon. During the walk you will see some of the most amazing sights and colours
Namibia has to offer. This is the time to take out a camera and capture these memories
forever. You will spend the night at Cañon Lodge.

Cañon Lodge***

The Cañon Lodge stands proud amongst great granite boulders, its beauty a foretaste of the splendour of the nearby
Fish River Canyon. A restored farmhouse, built in 1910, serves as the lodge restaurant. The nearby quivertrees and impressive rock formations cater for the hiking enthusiast.

Day 13 /
Quivertree Forest & Kalahari Desert
Departure for the north of Namibia to Anib Lodge via Keetmanshoop and the
Quivertree Forest.

Keetmanshoop:
This town is the capital of the south and also the focal point of scenic and historic attractions. The area was first inhabited by Europeans, who settled here after moving from the
Cape Province, situated in South Africa. In 1866 the missionary, Johann Schröder, settled here. Later on he built a church from reeds, which he covered with dry mud. As money was scarce, Schröder approached the affluent entrepreneur Johan Keetman, who was also the Chairman of the Rhenish Mission, to help further his mission in southern Africa. Keetman donated 2000 Reichsmark for the erection of a proper church building. Out of gratitude Schröder called this settlement "Keetman", after his well doer. With time the settlement's name changed to Keetmanshoop.

Today, the town still retains vestiges of its original German buildings. The stone church, built in 1895, is now a museum with displays depicting the region's colourful past.

We also recommend a visit to the
Quivertree Forest.

Quivertree Forest: About 14-km north-west of Keetmanshoop on the farm Gariganus, is the Quivertree Forest, a dense grove of quivertrees, some reaching a height of 7 metres. Normally these trees are few and far between in the barren landscape. However, in this specific area up to 250 different species of trees are found growing abundantly amongst the black dolomite rocks, some 200 - 300 years old. The quivertree derives its name from the Bushmen's practice of scooping out the pithy insides of the branches and using the tough, outer casings of bark as quivers in which to keep their arrows.

Afternoon arrival at Anib Lodge, which lies on the outskirts of the
Kalahari Desert. Here you also have the opportunity to participate in a scenic drive.

Kalahari Desert:

The
Kalahari Desert forms part of the eastern side of Namibia and reaches 500-km to the south of the country. The Kalahari's sandy soil does not allow for enough water absorption and as a result of extremely high evaporation in this region, it can be characterised as a Desert. In reality however, it is a lively wilderness and on the sparse grassy plains one is able to see large
herds of antelope and other animals grazing.

You will spend your second last night in
Africa at Anib Lodge.

Anib Lodge***

The peaceful expanse and endless beauty of the Kalahari surrounds Anib Lodge. Anib is situated in the middle of a garden boasting many gigantic trees, which form an oasis of serenity, tranquillity and quietness. This Lodge is the ideal location for excursions to the charms of southern
Namibia and here you will also be able to enjoy bird watching. Take a break on the veranda, shaded by vines and palm trees, in front of one of the six comfortable double units or the family cottage. Here you will also be spoiled with excellent service and mouth-watering dishes.

Day 14 / Windhoek
After breakfast it is time to drive back to
Windhoek via Rehoboth.

Rehoboth:
Amongst a relatively dense acacia woodland of camel thorn, sweet-thorn and candle-pod acacia, lies the historical town of
Rehoboth. Like many towns in Namibia, Rehoboth was once a missionary station, founded in 1844 by Heinrich Kleinschmidt. The Baster community, descendants of people of mixed parentage, who trekked across the Orange River under their leader Hermanus van Wyk, settled here in 1870. They still inhabit this region today.
In the late afternoon you will arrive in
Windhoek where your last night under African skies will be spent at the beautiful Hotel Heinitzburg.

Hotel Heinitzburg****
Count Schwerin built this castle as a wedding present for his fiancée, Margarethe Von Heinitz in 1914. Today Heinitzburg, an enchanting castle overlooking Windhoek, combines 19th century European charm with modern comforts. What makes Heinitzburg special is its elegance and splendour, from the four-poster beds and Italian ceramic tiles to the custom made fittings and specially created hand-made wooden furnishings.

Day15/Departure
Today is your last day in
Namibia and after breakfast you have the entire day at your disposal that is until you need to return to the airport! There is still time for last minute shopping or just relaxing next to the pool. After you have returned your vehicle a representative of the car rental company will assist you with the transfer to Windhoek International Airport.

TOUR ITINERARY FOR NAMIBIA

Gamedrives in Etosha

In the Ovambo language Etosha means "place of dry water" or "large white place". The Etosha Pan - which the park is named after - is approximately 6.000 km2 in size. The saline pan stretches 120 km at its longest and, at a maximum of 55 km from north to south, covers almost a quarter of the park. The pan is mostly dry except after heavy rains when it floods mainly from the Ekuma and Oshigambo rivers in the north.

Despite the massive size of Etosha, only the southern edge of the pan is accessible to casual visitors. There are three rest camps within the park at Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni. An extensive network of roads links the campsites with more than 30 water holes in the central and eastern region - ideal places to sit and wait it out for game.

Itinerary (4 nights, 5 days)

 Day 1

Early morning departure from Windhoek going north via Okahandja to Tsumeb. Visit Mine Museum in Tsumeb and Lake Otjikoto. . The lake still contains various pieces of artillery and there are rumours that the German troops also disposed of their war chest in the same manner. Heavy guns and ammunition were dumped in the sea after the war between Germans and the South African Union.
Continue driving east to Namutoni that centers around an old German Fort built before the turn of the century. A floodlit waterhole next to the fort allows for comfortable game viewing at night. Overnight at Namutoni Rest Camp

Day 2

More game viewing during the day around Namutoni.  The park is the habitat of five rare or endangered species namely, the black rhinoceros, black-faced impala, roan, Hartmann's mountain zebra and the diminutive Damara dik-dik. More commonly seen species in Namutoni are Kudus and the "duiker." Do not miss the black rhinoceros, elephant, lion and jackal drinking at nighttime at the waterhole. Overnight at Namutoni Rest Camp

Day 3

Depart from Namutoni through the Park and go west through Halali on route to Okaukeujo Rest Camp. Halali takes its name from a German tune traditionally sounded by the foresters on their horns to mark the end of a successful hunt. The Red hartebeest are more commonly spotted around Halali. Okaukeujo was the first rest camp opened to tourists and a special attraction of the camp is the waterhole just outside the perimeter of the camp. More likely to be seen at Okaukeujo is a lion killing a springbok at early morning hours! Overnight at Okaukeujo Rest Camp.

Day 4

More game viewing on this day. Also for birdlovers there are up to 320 bird species recorded in the park. During good rains up to a million flamingoes can be found in the pans. One fascinating aspect of these birds is their ability to save energy. Flamingoes can fly from Etosha in the evening and arrive at dawn in Walvisbay! This is about 500 km. Enjoy late night game watching at waterhole. Overnight at Okaukuejo Rest Camp.

Day 5

After breakfast proceed towards Otjiwarongo, for Okahandja. Visit the woodcarver's market and a Crocodile farm in Otjiwarongo. About 20 crocodiles are lazily laying in the sun. Some of them are more than 90 years old. About 1.300 young crocodiles are kept in incubators and interior water bassins. At the age of 9 months they are exported to Italy and Southafrica.
